The Author

John M. Coles received his Master of Counseling degree from Arizona State University and received his PhD in Counseling from Oregon State University.  He has received post-doctoral training in group processes, communication, self-esteem, anxiety management, trauma, phobias and positive psychology. After 25 years as a Counseling Department therapist and classroom professor at Truckee Meadows Community College, he became a full-time, tenured professor of Psychology for another 7 years.  His student evaluations describe him as an “inspirational speaker” and as one who teaches his material in a manner that is “practically applicable to everyday living.”  He presents a mixture of lecture, experiential exercises and media in all of his presentations.

John has conducted countless trainings over the years and has presented at many professional conferences.  Recently, he has been presenting talks on Christian spirituality. Although John no longer practices therapy, he is a Nationally Certified Counselor and a Certified Resiliency Trainer.  Dr. Coles states, “Learning resiliency allows readers of his book and participants in his Heart of the Christian seminars to realistically neutralize life stresses in each moment, thus freeing them to experience God’s Presence.”
